Dean Henderson Completes Season-long Loan Move to Nottingham Forest

I work hard every single day to be a better version of myself. At the end of the day, the only competition I’ve got is myself.

Dean Henderson

Born on 12 March 1997 and raised in White haven, England, Henderson played county cricket as a schoolboy. He was relatively good as a batsman and wicket keeper, but thankfully he chose football in the end. He initially played outfield before finalising his role as a goalkeeper. Dean Bradley Henderson is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Nottingham Forest, on loan from Manchester United, and the England national team.

Henderson, 25, is a product of the club’s Academy and has been at United since the age of 14. Henderson signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in 2015 and extended it in 2018 for a further two years until 2022. He made his debut for Manchester United against Luton Town in the third round of the EFL Cup in 2020. He has also been loaned out to a number of other teams. Having played in various lower divisions, he made his Premier League debut with Sheffield United in 2019. He has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-20, under-21 and senior levels.

Dean Henderson is embarking on the sixth loan spell of his career after playing three times for Man United last season. Nottingham Forest will cover Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s £110,000 weekly wages during his season-long loan.

Forest do not have an option to buy Henderson, 25, and he will not be able to play against United in the Premier League. United midfielder James Garner enjoyed a successful loan with newly-promoted Forest last season.

United have confirmed the departure of Henderson after he played only three games last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Forest manager Steve Cooper told the club’s official website: “Dean is a top-class goalkeeper, and he’s hungry for more opportunities to play and to continue to prove himself at the highest level.” He’s played multiple times in the Premier League, but has also experienced the Champions League and international football.” Again, Dean is someone who has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs, and we’re delighted that he has chosen to join Nottingham Forest for our return to the Premier League.”

Henderson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining such a fantastic club with an amazing set of fans and a wonderful history.

“I want to thank the manager and owners at Nottingham Forest for the great opportunity to play for this club in their first season back in the Premier League. I’m really excited to work with everyone at the club from the manager, players and goalkeeper coach Danny Alcock.”

“Finally, just a massive thank you to the fans for the welcome I have received, and I can’t wait to celebrate some brilliant moments together this coming season.”

Henderson joins Forest as a direct replacement for Brice Samba, who has told them he will not sign a new contract with the club and wants to leave this summer.

Samba, whose contract runs out next summer, is expected to join Lens, providing they can agree a fee with Forest.

Henderson has already starred in the Premier League on loan at Sheffield United during a loan spell there in the 2019-20 season.

But he struggled for playing time after returning to Old Trafford, failing to displace first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea.

Forest begin their 2022-23 Premier League season away to Newcastle United on August 6.
