Manchester United Reached Agreement with Ajax for Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United announced that they have reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Lisandro Martinez with a £45m deal. Manchester United are on the verge of completing their third summer signing. Martinez has flown to Manchester for a medical and to wrap up the remaining elements of the transfer, including getting a visa.

The Dutch club were reluctant to let Martinez leave, but United chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough progressed the deal when they visited Amsterdam last week.

United representatives were working on the deal for some days with facing the only competition from Arsenal. It is no doubt that a few high-profile signings already made by Arsenal took the wind down their sails over their approach for the Argentine defender.

It has been reported that the possibility of reuniting with his former manager—Erik Ten Hag—made it appealing for Lisandro to join the Red Devils. United manager Erik ten Hag was keen to be reunited with the 24-year-old.

He signed for Ajax in 2019. Martinez played 36 times for Ajax last season and has made seven appearances for Argentina.
Lisandro Martinez excels in making interceptions and ground duels, a player of his calibre is surely going to pump things up for United’s defensive line for the next season.

While in Australia, United play Melbourne Victory on Friday, followed by Crystal Palace on Tuesday and then Aston Villa on Saturday. United are hoping he can join them on their pre-season tour in Australia.
